ShakeMatch Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 5, 2026
Last updated: October 5, 2026
1. About this policy
ShakeMatch helps you choose a person from your contacts by shaking your phone. This Privacy Policy explains how the app processes information when you use its features.
ShakeMatch is developed and operated by Aziz Habibi, Yusuf Onaran, and Eray Turan. For privacy questions or requests, contact support@shakematch.app.
ShakeMatch is intended for people aged 16 and over.
2. Information processed by ShakeMatch
Contacts
With your permission, ShakeMatch reads contact names, phone numbers, contact photos, and, on Android, contact favorite status. This information is used on your device to display contacts and select a person from the eligible contacts or your Match List.
We do not upload your address book to a server operated by us. The app does not intentionally attach contact names, phone numbers, or photos to Crashlytics reports as custom user information or logs.
You can refuse or revoke contact access in your device settings. Features that require contacts may then be unavailable or limited.
Match List
ShakeMatch stores the contact record identifiers of people you select for your Match List locally on your device. These identifiers allow the app to find the selected people in your contacts. You can remove people from the list or clear the list in the app.
History
ShakeMatch stores a local history containing the selected person's name, phone number, contact record identifier, the time of the action, and its Matched or Called status. The app keeps up to 500 entries; older entries are removed as new entries exceed this limit.
History is the app's own activity history, not your phone's general call log. A Called status means that a number was passed to the system calling interface. It does not confirm that a call connected or took place.
Motion sensors
ShakeMatch uses your device's motion sensors to detect shaking and trigger a selection. Motion readings are not stored as a history or transmitted to a server by ShakeMatch.
Preferences
App preferences and onboarding completion information are stored locally to remember your settings and whether you have completed the introduction.
Crash and error reports
ShakeMatch uses Google Firebase Crashlytics to identify crashes and errors and improve app stability. Crashlytics sends technical diagnostic information to Google, such as crash traces, error details, device model, operating system and app information, and installation identifiers, including Crashlytics installation UUIDs and Firebase installation IDs.
These reports are not described as completely anonymous because they can include installation identifiers. They are used for diagnostics and app stability.
According to Google, Crashlytics retains crash traces and associated identifiers for 90 days before starting deletion from live and backup systems. This does not mean that deletion from every system is completed on day 90. See Firebase Privacy and Security.
3. Calls, WhatsApp, and other services
When you choose to call someone, ShakeMatch passes the selected phone number to your device's calling app. ShakeMatch does not record call audio, conversation content, or call duration. The calling app and your telecommunications provider handle the subsequent call under their own practices.
When you tap the WhatsApp button, ShakeMatch passes the selected phone number to WhatsApp through a wa.me link. ShakeMatch does not automatically send a message. WhatsApp and, where applicable, your browser may process information when the link is opened. Their processing is governed by their own policies, including the WhatsApp Privacy Policy.
Google processes technical diagnostic information through Firebase Crashlytics as described above. See also the Google Privacy Policy.
The current app does not require an account and does not integrate advertising SDKs or Firebase Analytics. We do not sell your personal information or use your contact list for advertising.
4. Storage, deletion, and your controls
Match List, History, preferences, and onboarding information are stored in the app's local storage. They remain there until you delete them through available app controls, clear app data where your operating system supports this, or the operating system removes that storage. History is also subject to the 500-entry limit.
You can:
- Revoke contact permission in your device settings.
- Remove people from Match List or clear the list.
- Clear History within the app.
- Contact us with a privacy question or request.
Revoking contact permission does not automatically delete previously stored History entries. Removing a person from Match List does not delete earlier History entries concerning that person. Clear History separately if you want those records removed.
Deleting local app data does not delete crash reports already sent to Firebase. Those reports are subject to Firebase's retention practices and any applicable deletion process.
Your operating system or backup provider may include app data in device backups, depending on its configuration. Uninstalling ShakeMatch does not necessarily remove backup copies, and restoring a backup may restore app data. Manage backups through your device or backup provider's settings.
If you contact support, we process your email address and the information you send to answer your request. Please avoid sending your address book or unnecessary personal information. Support correspondence is retained for as long as needed to handle the request and any applicable legal obligations.
5. International processing
Although contact processing and app history are local, diagnostic information sent to Firebase may be processed in countries other than your country of residence. Support correspondence may also be processed by the email service used to handle it. These services' privacy and data processing terms describe their processing arrangements and applicable transfer safeguards.
6. Security
ShakeMatch limits contact access through operating system permissions and keeps Match List and History in app-local storage. Protection of that storage also depends on your device's security and backup settings. No method of storage or transmission can guarantee absolute security.
7. Privacy requests and rights
Depending on the laws applicable to you, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction of processing, portability, or to object to certain processing. Where processing relies on consent, you may have the right to withdraw that consent. You may also have the right to complain to a competent data protection authority.
Send requests to support@shakematch.app. Explain your request and the information concerned. We may request proportionate information to verify your identity and will respond as required by applicable law.
We cannot remotely access or delete your locally stored Match List or History; use the app's controls to manage those records. We may also be unable to associate a technical crash report with you without additional information because the app has no user account system.
8. Children and age requirements
ShakeMatch is intended for users aged 16 and over and is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child under 16 has provided personal information to us, contact us so that we can investigate and take appropriate action.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when app features, service providers, or data practices change. The updated policy will show a revised last updated date. Where required by applicable law, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent for material changes.
